FAQ
Who should use CycleSense?
Anyone who wants certainty about when their period will come. CycleSense is for the people who fear leaking through their underwear, who avoid wearing light-coloured clothes, who use sanitary products as a precaution, even when they do not need them. Whether you never know when your period will come or you simply want reassurance every now and then, CycleSense is for you.
Is CycleSense safe and hygienic?
The device and funnel are designed to be easy to wash so should only take a minute to clean. After every saliva test, you are required to clean the device and funnel to ensure good hygiene and accuracy for future test results.
Can I take a saliva test after eating or drinking?
You should not eat or drink anything besides water for around an hour before taking a saliva test to ensure accurate results. CycleSense is designed to be used primarily first thing in the morning so that predictions can help you plan for the day ahead. This means that avoiding eating and drinking should not be a hindrance to your day as long as you use it before breakfast!
How often do I need to take a saliva test?
The CycleSense app will provide personalised recommendations of when you should take a saliva test. You do not need to follow these recommendations, however, this may impact the accuracy of the predictions. Typically, one or two will be taken each week, increasing to one per day leading up to the start of your period. Our research indicates around ten test strips will be used per month, however, this varies per person.
Note that more tests may need to be taken when you first start using CycleSense to provide data for the AI to base its predictions on.

Will my data be shared and is it secure?
All AI training data is anonymised and aggregated. If you do not give consent, your data will not be shared with anyone and will only be stored in your account for you to see. With consent, your data would only be used to improve CycleSense or for research into menstrual health, which is often a neglected and underfunded sector.
All data is encrypted and our products meet cyber security standards to ensure your personal data is secure. Additionally, your progesterone concentration data is encrypted in the CycleSense device. This means that even if the data is intercepted during transfer to your phone, it remains completely unreadable and inaccessible to unauthorised parties.

Is CycleSense sustainable?
Yes! Our paper test strips are biodegradable and the chemicals are non-toxic, meaning the environment will not be harmed when you dispose of them. Furthermore, using CycleSense will reduce the need to waste sanitary products due to not knowing when your period will come. These products can take hundreds of years to decompose but by using CycleSense, you are helping reduce this waste.
How much will CycleSense cost?
One of our priorities is that CycleSense is an affordable solution. The device is a one-time purchase, lasting 10+ years and can even be shared within a household. The test strips can be bought when needed or you can sign up to our subscription model, providing you with discounts to our products and guaranteeing you never run out of test strips. Family subscription models will be available too.
